For most Indians, Aadhaar has become the single most important identity document. You need it for everything from opening a bank account to getting a mobile SIM card. But here’s the problem: every time you share a copy, you run the risk of fraud. That’s why the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has been introducing safer ways to use Aadhaar without exposing sensitive details.
One of those solutions is e-Aadhaar. It’s a digital copy of your Aadhaar, password-protected and legally valid just like the physical card. Usually, you’d download it from the UIDAI portal or through the DigiLocker app. But now there’s an even simpler route: WhatsApp.
WhatsApp and MyGov Helpdesk
Thanks to the government’s official MyGov Helpdesk chatbot, you can now download Aadhaar and other essential documents securely on WhatsApp. The integration works with DigiLocker, which stores verified government documents.
What You Need Before You Start
To use this service, make sure you have:
- A mobile number linked to your Aadhaar
- An active DigiLocker account (you can create one on the DigiLocker website or app if you don’t already have it)
- The official MyGov Helpdesk WhatsApp number saved: +91-9013151515
Step-by-Step Guide to Get Aadhaar on WhatsApp
- Save +91-9013151515 as “MyGov Helpdesk” in your contacts.
- Open WhatsApp and start a chat with this number.
- Type “Hi” or “Namaste” to begin.
- Choose DigiLocker Services when prompted.
- Confirm that you have a DigiLocker account. If not, create one first.
- Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number.
- You’ll get a one-time password (OTP) on your registered mobile. Enter it in the chat.
- Once verified, the chatbot will display a list of documents stored in your DigiLocker.
- Select Aadhaar from the list by typing the right option number.
- Your Aadhaar card will arrive as a PDF directly in the WhatsApp chat.
Why This Matters
This method keeps your information safe, saves you from carrying physical copies, and lets you access Aadhaar anytime without going through multiple websites or apps. It also reduces the risk of fraud since the document comes directly from DigiLocker, which is linked to UIDAI.
